Other Options...or Are They?
Before you consider a junkyard or used Japanese engine, consider these facts:

"Like New" Engine from a Wrecked Vehicle

Unfortunately, even engines with low miles can have hidden problems.  And if you can find one for a vehicle that's less than 1-2 years old, an engine with only a few thousand miles on it will probably cost close to a remanufactured engine, especially a Subaru engine.

Many "like new" junkyard engines carry a minimal 30-90 day warranty, if any.  It's a roll of the dice.  How wrecked was the car?  Was it running upside down and starved for oil and coolant.  It may look nice on the outside, but what about inside, where it's really important?

30,000 Mile Japanese Used Engine

What's harder on an engine: 30,000 highway miles or the same amount of stop-and-go driving?  Obviously, driving in the city and in heavily congested traffic creates greater engine wear.  And when you think about it, Japan's not very big, has a very high number of vehicles and has very few long stretches of highway.  Plus, if you knew you had to buy a new car every 3 years, how well would you maintain it?
A 30,000 mile imported Japanese engine usually has the same amount of wear as a 100,000 mile US engine.  And, it's still a used engine with potential problems...INCLUDING the fact that Japanese engines often are NOT EXACT REPLACEMENTS for their American counterparts.

Your Best Option: A Remanufactured CCR Subaru engine!
